Why "the birch's shadow"?

The name of this (wonderful) blog wasn't weighted or planned at all. At first I was insipirationless (ps:I love creating pseudo-english words) but then I realized than the name of something so personal and so untouchable could not be planned or "built". The name of the blog imposed itself: it's warm but chill at the same time. It makes me think of a faint wind, the reflection of the branches in the waters of a lake of Finland, the sun filtrating through the leaves. It's a kind of protection and a door on the infinity of the chances. To me the birch is a symbol of Finland, life, wisdom and growth.

First post! It's is so exciting!

I really don't know how to start. I suppose it's is hard for a real write to find a proper start so for me it's even harder. I'm a girl from Italy and in november I've started my journey to my exchange experience. Actually it began many years ago but at first it was just the dream of a child. Since I was more or less 10 years old I wanted to go to Finland and there's a good reason: my mother is finnish from Lahti and when she was 30 she married my father: the typical "summer love". After the marriage my sister was born and after two years I was born to. As every 5 years old child I wasn't interested at all in all the halfitalianhalffinnishculturematter but then as I grew up I began to imagine how my life would have been if I was born in Finland or in an other country.

Some time later my mother told me that during high school it isn't so unusual to spend a year in another country. It was the perfect deal! My parents always supported me in the pursue of my dream and it is so that in november I decided to compete to participate to the AFS intercultural exchange.

I've been through many tests and meetings to be finally chosen to go to Finland in august but I'll talk about it in the next posts.
Into this blog I'll write about the before, the during and the after. Enjoy!
